Laverne suggests doing Xmas shopping in Okinawa, and had some great tips on everything from where to shop, what to buy, to what best Awamori places are, to how to handle the customs declaration forms. But I already forgot what she said, so please Laverne, tell us again here...

Okinawa is a great place for shopping from inexpensive cutesy stuff to wonderful artwork. You can do any kind of shopping for Christmas, birthday, etc. Lots of great ideas if you have to buy favors for a party (small stuffs that are easy to pack).

If you're into crafts, one year I bought my friends a bunch of stickers for their card making.

Lots of textile, pottery, lacquerware, purses, glassware, etc.

Some of the art galleries and larger stores will accept credit cards. But in Heiwa Dori you need yen.

I don't bargain, because items are resonable and I believe in helping my fellow Uchinanchus. Some stores will tell you if you buy so much then the next one is discounted.

The Okinawnas are tiny people, so buying clothes may be a challenge. Make sure you know the physical size (not shirt size) of your friends and relatives.
